Hey, I Think We All Know The Braves Own The World Of BaseBall!
Posted by: neodave at July 20, 2004 05:25 PMI to am a huge Braves fan, but do not think Cox is anywhere near Cooperstown material! I believe with a better field manager they would have probably won more than 1 WS title! He will need to get back to the WS and win again in my book before he is considered for Cooperstown! John Schuerholz on the other hand singe handedly turned the Braves into a regular season winning machine with his brilliant trades and minor league signings. All we need is a field manager that can win in the big game!
COME ON!
Posted by: BBECK at August 8, 2004 12:50 PMThe only way I will address your comment is as follows:
Money or no money: Cox has accomplished something that no other manager in SPORTS HISTORY has accomplished. I didnt say Baseball history, Football history, Basketball history...
Plain English: No other manager in the HISTORY of professional sports has accomplished what Bobby Cox has accomplished.
He should be a 1st ballot Cooperstown inductee.
Posted by: Jadarm at August 16, 2004 08:30 PMSure he can win a ton of regular season games but he is a classic choke artist in the post season. He does have 1 up on Marv Levy and the Buffalo Bills, at least The Braves won 1 WS, the Bills failed in 4 attempts to win the SB. Put Schuerholz in THE HALL! He is the real genius here for keeping good players on the field for Cox.
Posted by: BBECK at August 17, 2004 10:20 AMYou are missing the point. Bobby Cox sits on the board of directors and is the only manager in MLB to do so...so Bobby Cox will be involved in the decision making process of all trades and acquisitions that the Braves make.
The team that Torre took to the postseason in 1982? That was Cox's team, he was the GM and he put it together. He is among the all time managerial leaders in wins, postseason wins, 100 win seasons, and career winning percentage...and you have to remember that he has split his time in MLB, some being a manager and some time spent being a GM.
You can be sore about our lack of World Series wins (and that comes across in your comments) but you cannot deny what this man has meant to this organization.
